Standing proud in Old Spitalfields Market, Climpson’s Coffee Bar proves to be worthy of the prime position. As part of the Climpson & Sons group, it is something of an authority in the industry, and a must-visit for the coffee connoisseur (or if you just want to learn a bit about quality coffee while you drink it). Rather than being a typical café like its sister over in Broadway Market, its form is a square bar with a few surrounding stools, almost like a pub: coffee beer on draught, batch cold brew in the summer.

The barista-barmen really know their craft and aren’t afraid to experiment with it and fine tune their way to the perfect cup; it is therefore difficult to choose a favourite from their silky lattes to robust espressos, but the clean and crisp Panama Filter Coffee is particularly delectable – as sweet as caramel, it has all the flavour of a South American brew while staying extremely balanced. Brewing apparatus is also available.
