Coffee Company
Berenstraat 6, 1016 GH Amsterdam, Netherlands
Editor's Review
Dutch roaster and café chain Coffee Company counts over 30 cafés around the country. Some are franchises, though most are company-owned branches. All Coffee Company staff thus undergo official corporate training and regardless of the cafe you enter, you can expect to get not just a well-made espresso drink, but a filter coffee à la AeroPress – in the Netherlands’ relatively young specialty food and drink world, that’s earth-shaking.
A little west of Dam Square is one especially charming branch. It is fittingly embedded in The Nine Streets, an enclave of one-of-a-kind Dutch boutiques and the understated outposts of trendy global brands (think: Scotch & Soda, Filippa K). Like other crème de la crème locations, CC Berenstraat has a brew bar and staff who are eager to make your choice of single-origin coffee with a Kalita Wave. Food choices are few but satisfying, including creative toasties by Amsterdam’s own Tostissimo and sweets courtesy the real-deal American Baking Company (a California-cultivated couple based in The Hague).
