Today, a lot of Los Angeles barista legends can attribute their skills to Yeekai Lim, the architect-turned-coffee-genius behind Cognoscenti Coffee. Lim got his start with a mobile coffee cart that found a semi-permanent roost in Atwater Village's Proof Bakery before finding its first real home in Culver City's Arts District.

With three locations now, the original proves to be a longstanding popular hang inside architect Clive Wilkinson's swanky office space—looks like Lim didn't stray too far from his career origins. The interior matches its occupancy, with classic modern industrial touches like cement floors and walls. A patterned wood accent wall and splashes of color from bright orange and white tables and chairs bring life to this otherwise chic space.

As for your caffeine fix, look no further. Cognoscenti's menu claims, "today's your day" and that "U came to the right place," which is certainly hard to deny. This café hooks it up with different roasters for every brew style, their own beans included, from V60 to espresso and filter. Top it off with some non-café classics (hot chocolate, chai, tea) plus a cold brew soda and you're pretty much set with these longstanding coffee gurus.
