Editor's Review
Frequency is the ultimate do-it-yourself independent coffeeshop. Justo, a musician originally from Venezuela opened the café in July 2016 with no investment and little experience in the coffee industry. Keen to learn and improve, the coffee improves all the time and is now a fine addition to Kings Cross in a delightful space – all the more remarkable for the fact that the stunning shop was completely designed and built by Justo with the help of Pinterest, Youtube tutorials, and lots of “coffee-shop-visiting-procrastination-based research”.
The atmosphere is friendly and suits creativity, plans are afoot to build a music studio on site and eventually feature live performances. The Joint rehearsal studios are nearby. As well as espresso and filter coffee from Workshop, food includes the Cachapa (a traditional Venezuelan dish of a sweetcorn pancake with artisan Venezuelan cheese) and a range of Venezualan options. There are a range of gourmet sandwiches made in house, a range of breakfast options and pastries from The flour Station.
Service is taken seriously, drinks are served on small wooden trays in delightful crockery and use Estate Dairy milk. There are many delightful touches in the design, some of which echo other cafes you might be familiar with but overall the café reflects the personality of the owners. It’s a place that’s hard to leave. Nowadays, with few cafes opening without significant investment, it’s great to see such a well realised self-financed coffeeshop.
