George Howell Coffee

Boston Public Market, 100 Hanover Street, Boston, MA 02108, USA

Editor's Review

A little sibling to George Howell's cafe in Downtown Crossing, a 15-minute walk away, this high-volume stand serves the key function of caffeinating visitors to Boston Public Market, a year-round food hall that opened in 2015. The market, a public-private initiative, showcases local purveyors of fish, produce, beer, cheese, candles, and other New England offerings, providing a modern alternative to the somewhat dated and touristy Quincy Market nearby. Howell, as eminence grise of the Boston coffee scene, was a logical choice for a stand here. You can grab lunch from one of a number of tasty stands within the market, then take a well-made Howell beverage to go. At that point, you are well placed to stroll up Hanover Street into the North End, Boston's Little Italy, if you don't mind the scowls of waiters who'd rather you sat down for a macchiato at one of their cafes.
