Gregorys Coffee — 485 Madison Avenue

This particularly pleasant branch of Gregorys, a short walk from the Museum of Modern Art and a pile of other Midtown attractions, sports lots of black and white in its brightly lit interior (floor tiles, chairs and tables, the bar and counters), almost suggesting a vintage coffee shop. Of course, it’s the consistency and quality of this NYC-bred chain that makes it indispensable to local office workers, shoppers and tourists.

The full range of Gregorys coffee drinks (AeroPress single-origin cups, all the standard espresso and brewed-coffee options) is backed by a small set of toast options (almond butter and strawberries; ricotta and honey; fig spread and prosciutto), a ham, egg, and cheese sandwich, and the expected display of mouth-watering pastries, all made in-house. (Note that while the address is Madison Avenue, you’ll enter the shop on 52nd Street.)
