Grindsmith Pod
Victoria Bridge St, Salford, Manchester M3 5AS, UK
Editor's Review
Grindsmith now have a few venues, but this tiny, riverside café is where it all began as a crowd-funded enterprise (and the bar area still bears the names of those who supported it). While it's pretty boutique in terms of size, the Pod delivers superb coffee from a lovely Victoria Arduino lever machine. As with their other cafés, there are a mix of beans available, and the knowledgable baristas are happy to chat through the options and, indeed, just chat generally. It's friendly and clearly a stop that sees plenty of regulars dropping in for coffee and conversation.
There is a round table inside the venue, which seats four or five comfortably, and there's also seating outdoors for a further few groups. The outdoor seating, and indeed the café itself, is in a kind of stepped-down amphitheatre, so you're protected a bit from the noise and bustle of traffic and people – the venue is, however, only a short walk from many office buildings and the Arndale centre so it's brilliantly situated. As Grindsmith continue to develop and expand, it's no surprise to find that their first space is still excellent – these are people who know and care about their coffee.
