Ground Central Coffee Company
155 East 52nd Street, New York, NY 10022
Editor's Review
Part of the steady growth of Midtown specialty cafes, Ground Central offers a surprisingly spacious and hospitable place to escape for coffee that seems to cover all the bases. Take note of a Third-Wavey front room decorated by a Hario Buono copper kettle wall behind the bar, LP racks, an abundance of plumbing-pipe rails, and an art deco ceiling. With a communal table and enviable window seating, you'll also catch a view of their funky espresso machine decorated like an old school mixtape. In the back, linger longer in the library-style room, perhaps the perfect spot for your awkward first date courtesy of dim lighting, French classic wallpaper, and plush armchairs and couches.
Coffee is provided by La Colombe, along with the company's own small selection of roasts, and are used to brew classic espresso-milk beverages, nitro, and Toddy cold brew, plus sweet non-coffee drinks like flavored steamers and matcha lattes. Non-dairy alternatives include almond, soy, and coconut milk. Pair it with a savory selection of house-made sandwiches and salads and you're winning in Midtown.
