Higher Ground Melbourne
650 Little Bourke St, Melbourne VIC 3000, Australia
Editor's Review
A formal and casual beauty, yet so accessible thanks to a great crew. Such an expansive space is almost unfathomable in Melbourne City, especially for a cafe/eatery. Upon entry to Higher Ground, you’re instantly taken back by the sheer size of the New York style loft. Immediately, you begin stretching those neck muscles in all directions as you gaze up in awe at the 15m high ceilings and intricately designed tier and level layout, splashed with greenery, of the old power station. The award winning design takes the elements of location, materials, colours, textures, decorative items and blends them together so naturally and seamless to create something sensational and as tasteful.
Just like Square One’s distinct house blend used in their milk drinks – of course, there is the option for filter coffee via batch brew or pour over in the form of a select single origin, also used for black espresso coffees to open up your palette before you dig into something from the ever so profound food menu. Thursdays through to Saturday, the venue is also a cocktail bar and has a dinner menu. A showpiece and must see for anyone, especially from out of town. Seriously, check the place out, only way to justify it.
