Kolonel Koffie
Montignystraat 51, 2018 Antwerpen, Belgium
Editor's Review
It’s difficult to write about the experience at Kolonol Koffie in case we inadvertently discourage you from visiting.
So, the TLDR summary is: if you are in Antwerp, go here and have a coffee.
The longer summary would speak to the epic and beautiful unit they run between Brederode and Zuid in the south of the city, the expansive terrace out the front. It would talk about a warm and friendly welcome, even if your Dutch extends to saying, in English, “sorry I really don’t speak Dutch"; the excellent coffee (and food) and the stunning white La Marzocco Strada faithfully humming away at the bar.
Kolonol Koffie is definitely not on the tourist trail. It may pick up a bicycle commuter or two, but by and large the coffee drinkers here seem to live or work locally. If you’re visiting Antwerp and are discouraged by the distance from the Grote market, rent a city bike and pedal down the extensive and prioritise bike paths and have a coffee here; otherwise you’ll leave Antwerp having done yourself a disservice.
This is a specialty coffee shop (and roaster, which is downstairs) that should be a notch on your café-visiting bedpost.
