Greg, whom many will recognise from Alchemy and Black Box, has set up Lanark Coffee in Hackney Road which could well be considered the ‘spiritual home’ of London specialty coffee. Still a work in process, this simple coffee shop focuses very much on the coffee rather than on auxiliary products. There are a few seats along a slim, stylish wooden bar and a bench outside.

A stylish Victoria Arduino lever machine sits atop a well-designed counter that makes good use of the minimal space. The coffee shop is part of the Manufactory collective and houses three furniture designers downstairs.

The plan is for Lanark to open a little later in the evening than most coffee shops but hours will be reviewed and regularly updated on their Twitter page.
