Laynes Espresso
16 New Station St, Leeds LS1 5DL, UK
Editor's Review
Laynes Espresso is something of a destination café for visitors to Leeds and not simply because it's the first one you reach out of the station. Long-established but evolving, Laynes delivers on quality with consistency and charm. The feel is modern, airy, and light upstairs, while there is also a spacious downstairs seating area which, while darker, is well laid-out so no customers will feel cramped. Laynes Espresso’s location, no more than a minute’s walk from Leeds’ mainline rail station, means that it can get very busy, but if you are prepared to wait a short while, the coffee more than compensates.
An open kitchen serves a wide variety of brunch options including a Yorkshire rarebit and a ham hock and black pudding hash, while there are also plenty of sandwich and pastry options available. Laynes also offer barista training and the staff are happy to chat through coffee choices (assuming they're not rushed off their feet which, to be fair, they often are!). Whether you're a visitor dropping in straight from the train or a local seeking a great coffee spot, Laynes is a must-visit.
