Lighthaus cafe
11 Argall Ave, Walthamstow, E10
Editor's Review
Lea Bridge Station was re-opened after 31 years in 2016, fortunately soon enough for us to reach this beautiful and charming café. That said, it’s a lovely cycle ride from Clapton and not far from Walthamstow. The area is surprisingly lovely for a complex of industrial units, with a proper cycle path and a community feeling among the nearby residential streets. Lighthaus is flooded with light on a sunny day, highlighting the thoughtful use of the interior.
Owner Jen has imbued this café with personality, using suppliers she knows personally such as excellent coffee and hot chocolate from Yallah in Cornwall renowned for sustainable environmental impact. Espresso based drinks are made with care on a Victoria Arduino White Eagle, while filter coffee is also available. Teas are from Waterloo. The food offer really captivates and is mostly made on site; home baked cakes and cinnamon rolls are wonderful while the lunch menu varies daily and is complete with such delights as slow cooked pork hash, Mexican style eggs and a range of baguettes. Buttermilk porridge is a must if you’re starting your day here.
