This intimate spot in JC Heights, just across the street from Riverview Fisk Park, can rightly consider the park its balcony. Modcup is now a pretty major presence in Jersey City, with three cafés and a roaster all within city limits, and this is their first, and possibly sweetest spot in town, right across from . Outfitted with minimal decor that draws on classic UK Mod imagery, the wee shop has a great local café vibe, where most of the customers are regulars, and the barista always has a few minutes to chat. They can brew you an espresso, pour you a nitro cold brew, or prepare nearly any manner of filter method you and the baristas time can agree on.

They take coffee seriously here, working directly with farms for both their single-origin options, as well as the Secret Affair espresso blend. Their roast profiles tend towards fresh, clean flavors, letting the fruit speak loudly. They also make a lovely cascara tea, and any number of other specialty drinks. There is a limited pastry and cookie selection available from Colson. Settle in for a break in the hip surroundings, or take your coffee across to the park for an even sweeter view.
