Writing with a very broad brush, Eastbourne isn't a town that would necessarily embrace third wave speciality coffee shops in a hurry. Since 2014, however, Nelson Coffee has been challenging that.

This café is wonderfully fitted out and has made great use of a slightly odd shaped unit opposite the train station.  The coffee menu has a strong Antipodean influence - perhaps supported by the roaster of choice, Ozone.  The long black, pleasingly, comes as an espresso and a jug of hot water to allow you to tailor the drink to preference.  Beyond the coffee, there is an extensive menu and some jaw-dropping brunch options.

The hustle, bustle, to and fro of people at Nelson Coffee Co is a testament to their success. For an Eastbournian that likes speciality coffee, this place will quickly entrench a strong sense of loyalty and fandom.  Not only is this a great coffee shop in Eastbourne, it's a great coffee shop...period.
