Pelicano (Laines)
28 Sydney St, Brighton BN1 4EP, UK
Editor's Review
Since opening in 2014, Pelicano have deservedly made a name for themselves on the Brighton coffee scene, epitomising the laid back vibe of the North Laine in which they are based. The cafe on Sydney Street can easily be spotted by the cluster of tables on the pavement, which spill further onto the street when it’s closed to cars on the weekends. These remain busy into the evening with Pelicano one of the few Brighton cafes open till late.
The interior is rustic, with seating available on the ground and first floors, and in-house coffee roasting occupying the basement. The beans to take home are competitively priced, so you can justify accompanying your coffee with a slice of the huge cakes available on the counter. Their Smokey Bird espresso blend with rich chocolate notes pairs best with milk, which is always perfectly textured and lovingly poured. While this may be their forte, there is also a choice of hand brewed coffees and loose leaf teas to enjoy.
