RAD Cafe
397 Mount Eden Rd, Mount Eden, Auckland 1024, New Zealand
Editor's Review
On a busy road in Mount Eden Village is RAD. Your eye is immediately drawn to the mix of the wooden fold back windows and the sexy matt black frontage. Inside, the ceiling is awash with oversized light bulbs giving a soft ambience. The matt black La Marzzoco takes pride of place on the geometric pastel mosaic counter, which blends well with the purposely unfinished floor and exposed brickwork walls. Initialed cups are a nice touch.
With a mixture of table and stool seating we suggest choosing the front window with a view of the volcanic Mount Eden. The customary bottle of tap water arrives with the appearance of a delicate green hue indicating the infusion of green rose tea, as pretty as the vase of pink peonies at the till.
The staff are smiley and donned with RAD denim aprons. The kitchen is just visible at the back of the café through the hatch. Slices and scones fill the glass cabinet on the counter. Chopsticks in the cutlery pot on each table gives you a clue of the Vietnamese influence on the menu.
Bags of their RAD espresso blend are available to buy and take home. Great little coffee stop.
