RedDoor
400/8 Đường Lê Văn Sỹ, Phường 14, Quận 3, Hồ Chí Minh, Vietnam
Editor's Review
In the depths of District 3, off the ever-crowded Lê Văn Sĩ street and down a cul-de-sac so narrow we missed it three times, a door waits ajar. This is not your average brown door; nor is it white, metallic or black. This is a red door and the only inclination that you have arrived at your destination.
RedDoor is a collection of three rooms circumventing a large tree rising high beyond the roof of the café. Light plunges into the main coffee bar where dispersed seats collect coffee riddled bodies and classic Vietnamese records play from the turntable in the corner. Other seating options include an outdoor balcony and a more private room.
The coffee menu is scribbled on a collection of paper filters pinned together by hand, with a variety of beans from Vietnam, Kenya and El Salvidor featured, at the time of our visit. Cold brew left stewing for 24 hours is available at the bar, whilst the café retains its Vietnamese roots by offering a classic cà phê sữa đá (sweet Vietnamese ice coffee) on the menu. The dependence on a variety of guest roasts over house, charges each patron's experience with excitement at the prospect of trying a completely new taste upon their return. We are certainly looking forward to the next one…
