Rising Sun Workshop
1C Whateley St, Newtown NSW 2042, Australia
Editor's Review
Rising Sun Workshop are a unique hub of motorbikes, good music, iconic food, and great coffee. The large converted hardware store is divided into two spaces: half for motorbike owners to tune up their bikes (rent by the hour), and half for foodies of all delegations to sit and enjoy a range of tasty, restaurant-quality fare in an open and communal space.
They offer separate breakfast, lunch and dinner menus and are best known for their Ramen (‘The Light’, ‘The Darkness’ and ‘The Monk’), which they’ve been refining since their days as a pop-up in 2011. Owner-operator Daniel Cesarano also has a formidable background in coffee, which is given a lot of airtime here on the front bar.
Roasters from all around Australia are showcased as espresso and filter and are offered in the same breath as a wide range of standout cocktails, wines, beers and pastries. The place certainly fills up on weekends but thanks to its laneway location it’s still a bit of a locals’ secret and you’re likely to bag a comfortable spot for a long sit-down with friends.
