Riverhill Coffee Bar
24 Gordon St, Glasgow G1 3PU, UK
Editor's Review
Starting out as a plush, relaxed, bar and restauraunt by the coast in Helensburgh, Riverhill's move to the big city with their city centre coffee bar could have been seen as a risk. Not a bit of it — the team have taken their passion for local ingredients and great food, creating one of Glasgow's busiest and most reliable cafes. Riverhill is brilliantly located right in the centre of Glasgow, on Gordon Street, a short walk from both Glasgow Central and Glasgow Queen Street station, around the corner from George Square, and almost directly behind the Gallery of Modern Art — if it's your first visit to the city and you want somewhere to set up camp first thing and plan your day, Riverhill is a great bet.
Unsurprising given their culinary background, the focus they put on their lunch food is admirable. It's a small place, but amazing things come out of their kitchen — their sriracha spiked take on the macaroni pie, a true Scottish delicacy, is something to behold, and it's basically impossible to leave without one of their cakes. Coffee comes from the ever reliable Dear Green and flows fast from their La Marzocco, a workhorse of a machine perfect for a cafe used to delivering high quality and high volume. This place can get a little cramped at lunch, but nothing says good coffee like a queue snaking out the door.
