Opened in 2013 by a Swede, his Polish wife and his Argentine best friend, this cafe is no doubt on the Nordic track, albeit with heavy accents of other cultures. The coffees do come from Swedish and Danish roasters, and the breakfast and lunch menu (with hot dishes, too) will appeal to fika-seekers. Offering top quality and consistency, Scandinavian Embassy is as much plugged in to specialty coffee’s global standards as it is open to experimentation. It was one of the first Dutch establishments to serve cascara, kombucha (and the two together); to pair coffee and food; and to cook with coffee.

Scandinavian Embassy has a reputation for coffee-themed dinners, serving them privately as well as at past coffee festivals in Amsterdam and London. Other distinctions include long-time barista Daniella Nyström being crowned the 2017 Dutch Brewers Champion and co-owner Dominka Budny’s 2015 launch of SE:wardrobe, a ready-to-wear fashion collection.
