Small Batch Coffee
70 Goldstone Villas, Hove BN3 3RU, UK
Editor's Review
The original Small Batch espresso bar opened in 2009 next door and in 2013 this was expanded to the café we see now. We were impressed with the inclusiveness of third café which has clientele if all ages and backgrounds and, fitting the Small Batch ethos, a wheelchair ramp too. Just down the street from Hove station (and near Sussex County Cricket Ground), this comfortable and hospitable café serves espresso based and filter coffee from Small Batch.
The interior is striking with unusual use of corrugated metal and lighting, and there is a dedicated, extended area for laptop working in an area accessible from the cafe. Food options includes sandwiches, toasties, and cakes.
Small Batch helped revolutionise Brighton coffee. Roasting since 2007, they, together with Taylor St (who had a coffeeshop in Brighton from 2010 to 2015) and Redroaster (since 2000) have developed a great thirst for speciality coffee in Brighton. Small Batch are a major part of the reason Brighton residents were said to spend more on coffee than any other city. Small Batch run nine locations in total in Brighton, Hove, Portslade and Worthing.
