Southside has been serving great coffee and snacks in the South Slope (or is this North Sunset Park?) since before this area was on most people's radar, but while there are now quite a few quality options in the neighborhood, Southside is still one of the very best. The small, comfortable cafe has a good neighborhood feel with its loyal customers, friendly staff, and simple decor, but while the presentation is low-key, the food is not to be missed. Great housemade pastries, an award-winning egg sandwich, and an inspired selection of lunch sandwiches that includes many great vegetarian options. 

The customers reflect the neighborhood, a mix of young families, artists, and laptop zombies depending on the time of day, but everyone is laid back, and welcoming to locals and newbies alike. This spot closes early, but if you are looking for dinner in the area, check out their slightly upscale, but equally delicious restaurant, Lot 2, across the street.
