Starfish & Coffee
92 Aldermans Hill, Palmers Green, N13 4PP
Editor's Review
This spacious Palmers Green café is quite spacious, well situated with Broomfield park opposite through the large windows. This café is many things: a community hub drawing in the local artistic community, an art exhibition space, a coffee bar, a lunch venue, a supper club and an evening jazz venue with an alcohol licence serving prosecco on tap, fine wines and cocktails such as Espresso Martinis and craft beers. It’s spotlessly clean but comfortable and family friendly.
The coffee is very good here. Starfish and Coffee (look up the Prince song if you don’t know it) work with Dumo Mathema at The Roastery Department to select coffees for private label roast. When we visited they were serving a delicious coffee from Cameroon – all rich chocolate and red fruit. Milk id from Northiam Dairy. Lunch is also worth visiting for. Everything is hand-made. Options include sourdough with avocado and poached egg options and shakshuka eggs. At night there is tapas.
Palmers Green has developed a vibrant residential community of actors, entrepreneurs, musicians and artists. It’s great that Palmers Green has a café that meets their needs so well and switches seamlessly between art house and coffee house – it probably does this so well because all of its identities reflect the passions of its owners Aykut and Ingrid.
