Sweetleaf Coffee Roasters — Greenpoint
159 Freeman St, Brooklyn, NY 11222, USA
Editor's Review
Since its inception in Queens in 2008, Sweetleaf has since expanded to serve both Brooklyn and Queens with the geekiest approach to coffee, down to each shot of espresso weighed on scales. With a self-dubbed "old-world Brooklyn" feel, the Greenpoint branch is in an old warehouse and feels practically anachronistic. Upon entering, you second guess whether you're in an old timey antique shop or not. With church pews for seating and marble counters, lighting is provided by iron chandeliers, globe street lamps, and vintage lighting fixtures.
This cafe also plays home to Sweetleaf's roasting facility, with the roaster on display for all to see through its barn door windows. Along with a coffee menu of classic drinks, Sweetleaf tries to give you a little taste of everything special, serving both a nitro and a Toddy-style cold brew and specialty sweet drinks like the Voodoo Child —a Vietnamese-style cold brew, plus the Maple Leaf, a maple-syrup-sweetened latte with nutmeg. For non-dairy alternatives ask for soy or almond, and make sure you have cash on you if you're spending less than $5 here.
