The Bach
31 Meadowside, Dundee DD1 1DJ, UK
Editor's Review
Kiwi inspired bistro The Bach is at the forefront of Dundee's independent coffee scene.
A short walk from the station and the fast developing waterfront, The Bach (pronounced "Batch", a Kiwi term for a holiday home) have made full use of Arbroath roastery Sacred Grounds Coffee's offerings, providing a wide selection of African and South American varieties, each with unique character. The espresso and "bach brew" are constant all day, but you are encouraged to be experimental — pick a bean you like the sound of, tasting notes provided, and choose from V60, Chemex, Syphon or Aeropress soft brew methods. Few other coffee shops offer this choice, fewer still lay it out in such accessible terms.
Food's not bad either — quite the opposite, in fact. Everything scratch made, a menu that changes with the seasons, all the brunch and breakfast options you'd want plus exciting lunch options too — the Kiwi theme pops up on the menu too, with Antipodean staples like Mince On Toast and Vogel Bread. There's even a BYOB policy, with a small corkage charge, which adds to the genial, relaxed atmosphere The Bach have managed to cultivate.
