The Bread Maker
50-52 Rosemount Viaduct, Aberdeen AB25 1NT, UK
Editor's Review
The Breadmaker is a proper old fashioned Scottish bakery whose products are sold right across Aberdeen, and baked fresh every morning in town. Not only are they committed to serving the community with their food, The Breadmaker is also a fully operational social enterprise, offering support, training, and education to adults with learning difficulties.
The cafe itself on the Rosemount Viaduct serves up everything you’d expect a Scottish bakery to serve — Scotch Pies, Empire Biscuits, Snowballs — piled high behind a glass fronted case. In the front, the cafe serves house-made jams and preserves, dozens of different kinds of bread, and beans from Glasgow based roasters Carraro Coffee. The Breadmaker also run regular courses for any budding bakers.
Scotland has a reputation for combining social enterprises with cafes. Edinburgh’s Social Bite, with its endorsements from George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio, being the most famous. The Breadmaker may not have the celebrity endorsements, but they’re an unsung hero of Aberdeen’s food culture and community.
