The Gentlemen Baristas (Store Street)
The Building Centre, 26 Store Street, WC1E 7BT
Editor's Review
The Building Centre was first established in 1931 to promote innovation in the built environment and operates as a not-for-profit education, information and inspiration centre. It’s the home of New London Architecture and other organisations and always worth a visit for architecture themed displays and the wonderful 3d scale model of London. Once the Gentleman Baristas of Union Street were approached to establish a café in the centre, clearly it had to be a space with sophisticated design principles in line with the building and also function as everything from a work space to an ‘archi-tourist’ café.
The café feels very different to their Union Street café. Where that has a historical London theme, Store Street has a modern, sleek design aesthetic with long communal tables and a kitchen on site serving a menu that changes regularly and a chef who focusses on dishes made from scratch. Coffee is Gentleman Baristas branded, roasted in partnership with Wogan coffee and guest coffees regularly include Neighbourhood from Liverpool and Strangers from Norwich. The Gentleman Baristas serve a wider choice of roast profiles than many other cafes and this approach ensures there’s something for everyone and separates them from the crowd.
The cafe also houses a coffee school open to allcomers - see their website for details.
