The Steamie Coffee Roasters
1024 Argyle St, Glasgow G3 8LX, UK
Editor's Review
Since launching in 2014, The Steamie have been building a strong reputation as part of Glasgow’s strong roasting scene, as well as becoming a fixture of the popular Finnieston area of the city. A strong food menu bolsters The Steamie’s offering, important given the healthy competition on Argyle Street (known locally as The Strip, for its array of bars and cafes), and the cakes that sit invitingly on what looks like an old Design-Technology table change regularly, though you’ll find Scottish regulars like Clootie Dumplings and Empire Biscuits.
Though relatively new, there’s something familiar about The Steamie. The upcycled workbenches and casual counter service feels like it’s taking a leaf out of Artisan Roast’s book – almost a mirror image of its Broughton Street branch in Edinburgh. However, if you’re going to take influence from anywhere, Artisan Roast is a decent place to start, and it’s worth pointing out that The Steamie offer an equally wide selection of brew options, with different blends available for Aeropress, Chemex, V60, Espresso, as well as their own house decaf. This is a place that takes pride in the quality of their product, and the skill of their baristas, without being too intimidating.
