The White Goose
44 Dock St, Dundee DD1 3DR, UK
Editor's Review
Having first started life as a pop-up venture, The White Goose opened its first bricks and mortar establishment on Dundee's Dock Street in the Autumn of 2017, in a beautiful site overlooking the Tay. A modern, stylish bistro cafe, their well made coffee is paired with a contemporary menu of small plates, baked goods, and lunches, with everything made on site.
A lot of effort has been put into making The White Goose chic and impressive, and indeed, it does stand out from much of the rest of what Dundee has to offer. As well as booths and good sized table seats, you can perch up by the window and look out onto the river, which in the morning can serve up some pretty spectacular sunrises. Looking inwards, the White Goose are clearly very proud of what they're doing in the kitchen — the interior design allows you to see what's being prepared in front of you, which really helps to build atmosphere. What comes out of there helps too — their sausages rolls are things of beauty.
Coffee comes from slightly further afield, although not too far, with Glasgow wholesalers We Love Coffee providing their bulldog roast and decaf pods. It's a good, all round flavour that serves the ethos of the cafe well. The White Goose also manages to successfully achieve something that's rarely mastered, namely, the transition between nice afternoon coffee spot, to evening cocktail bar — they get the balance just right. You'll likely continue to see these guys on the pop up scene, but here, it's clear they've got even more to offer.
