Top Paddock Cafe
658 Church St, Richmond VIC 3121, Australia
Editor's Review
Considering coffee is the main focus on here, it is an injustice to the to the people behind Top Paddock not to make special mention of the innovative food menu and available at your fingertips and elaborate design of the premise: they're pioneers in defining the new era of food, coffee and design and the epitome of all hands on deck, team culture and cohesion. While remarkable food is at the fore, Top Paddock are now roasting their own through sister company Square One. Food and coffee are aligned in the quality of product and of those cooking (chef, roaster and barista). This also means having more options and decision making powers over selection of green beans.
The baristas here give an option of two very clean and distinct single origin for espresso and filter, usually something of difference and fun, which might be roast profile, origin or method. The blend for milk drinks is like a coercion of two quite opposite profiles complementing rather than competing with each other. The bar holds centre, anchored by a 4 group Synesso to pull together a very warm bright, open and welcoming space, sanctuary like amongst it’s designer and industrial Richmond neighbours.
