Wood Street Coffee
Blackhorse Workshops 1-2 Sutherland Rd Path, Walthamstow, E17 6BX
Editor's Review
Behind an impressive bright red door, next to a giant horse head stencil, lies the cavernous Wood St Coffee. Despite these oversized, obvious markings Wood St Coffee is a little tricky to find, mainly as it’s no where near Wood Street, but rather a sneaky side path joining Blackhorse Lane and Sutherland On a weekday the cafe is filled with freelancers and their Macbooks, mammas with their babies and builders from the various local sites (complete with high vis jackets.) This mix creates an authentic community feel, a “worker’s” cafe in every sense of the word. Wood St Coffee fuels its eclectic clientele with Climpson and Sons coffee, daily soups and homemade cakes and pastries and now a much bigger menu including a range of brunch options. Their toasties are made with sourdough bread baked on site in the “Fermentarium.” The spotted pegboard MDF walls coupled with the geometric, brightly coloured tables and chairs make one feel as if stepping into a deconstructed Lichtenstein print. Thanks to the lack of windows and tucked away location, Wood St Cafe feels luxuriously secluded and secret. The considered, down-to-earth service and relaxed atmosphere makes Wood St Cafe well worth the visit.
