Coffee Roaster Introduction: Quarter Horse Coffee

Best Coffee's roastery guide is a compilation of the very best, tried & tested coffee roasters from around the world. We’ve hand-selected a small collection of amazing coffees for you to sample. Not all coffees are created equal, and not all coffees make it into our shop. So we’re starting a series of articles shining a light on our chosen roasteries to explain why we picked them for your drinking delight.

Quarter Horse

Quarter Horse Coffee Founders

Since when: 2012

Why: Quarter Horse have quickly gained a reputation for high-quality roasts. We love their attention to detail & their dedication to sourcing their coffee from importers who trade directly with growers, focusing on making a positive change in the industry.

What’s the story: Quarter Horse know how to create theatre, as perhaps the only roastery in the country choosing to work in full view of their café customers. They seasonally select beans by quality, testing in small batches before choosing them for their cafés or wholesale.

Sustainability Credentials

Quarter Horse Coffee

Quarter Horse promotes awareness of heritage coffee varietals, most recently the Yemenia Mother Population. Forging new frontiers of price transparency, their customers have the opportunity to try exciting new coffees while Quarter Horse donate their profits to the UNICEF Yemen Appeal. The roastery is also long term supporters of the Women Coffee Producers program, an initiative in Guatemala to reduce gender inequality in coffee growing regions.

Our favourite coffees:

Quarter Horse
Los Pirineos - The Baraona family farm grows many varieties of coffee and are well regarded as one of the most renowned coffee growers in their region. With tasting notes of almond, lemon and black tea; this black-honey processed coffee is bright and delightful.

Quarter Horse Coffee
El Guayacan - Compostable Coffee Pods - El Guayacan is named after a stunning yellow tree which flourishes in the area this coffee is grown and provides much needed shade for the coffee plants. This is a great all round coffee; silky with a great body for espresso and milk.
