The World AeroPress Championships: Earven Air Marabiles

Why did you choose to enter the AeroPress Championship?

I joined the AeroPress Championship because our boss always encourages us to participate in such competitions for us to develop our confidence and enhance our skills in making coffee. Also, I find it very interesting since this is my first time joining this kind of competition and of course to have the chance to compete in the World AeroPress Championship in Sydney, Australia.

What’s your favourite way to make coffee (other than AeroPress of course!)?

Other than AeroPress, I enjoy making coffee using the espresso machine. Specially to create different latte art designs.

What led you to using the AeroPress?

Because with the AeroPress I can use different parameters and play around with brewing methods, since it is the most versatile brewing method. Also, it is handy and very convenient to use.

Which grinder will you use for the competition and why?

Comandante grinder because it is a robust high-performance hand grinder with advance burr set design that produces precise grind size of my choice. That creates a huge impact on my brew.

How did you get in to the coffee industry?

Way back in the Philippines, I already worked in a famous local coffee shop that opened my eyes to coffee. When I arrived in Dubai, I was given the chance to work in a specialty coffee shop and fell in love with it. I am so lucky and privileged to work in this kind of job where I enjoy and love every single thing that we are doing.

What are you most excited about in coffee?

I am always excited in trying different coffee origins with distinct and unique flavours. Each coffee has different characteristics and my role as a barista is to showcase this to every customer through different brewing methods.
