Introduction to Hario V60 - Why Own One?

There is a reason why the Hario V60 Dripper is so popular amongst professional baristas and coffee connoisseurs alike and that reason is simple; it produces fantastic, clean and repeatable coffee. The Hario V60 Dripper is for beginners and experts alike as it gives you full control of every brewing variable.

The V60 is so named because of the 60° angle created by the cone which allows water to flow through all parts of coffee, resulting in the evenly extracted cup of coffee. The large hole at the bottom enables the brewer to adjust the flavour of the coffee, by altering the speed of water flow. It is manufactured in Japan by Hario, which has been producing heat proof glass since 1921 and has become known as the industry leader for pour over coffee equipment.

It comes in four different materials; plastic, ceramic, glass, and metal/copper variations, along with various colours and size options ranging from small (01), medium (02) to large (03). In that way you can choose a size width fits your needs.

In essence, they all work in the same way, the V60 is placed on top of a cup or carafe, a filter paper is added, followed by ground coffee and then hot water is poured over the top. It can brew up two to four cups of coffee at a time. The internal ribs support natural flow of water and help deliver a "clean" cup. The handle provides is heat resistant for easy disposal of the hot coffee waste, and the V60 has a really easy process of cleaning and is dishwasher safe.

If you are still undecided which one to choose, then we would recommend that you start with the V60 Ceramic, it is made from the highest quality porcelain, the ceramic V60 achieves maximum heat retention and is available in a wide range of colours.

Don’t forget to add filters papers and a Kettle. The original Hario filter come in standard sizes 01, 02 and 03 which match your Hario V60, there are is also a bespoke Hario Project Waterfall Filter papers, are available from Best Coffee website so too are a range of Kettles. The former are manufactured in Japan and the later in Europe. Proceeds from Project Waterfall Filters will help support their work to bring clean water, sanitization and education to the coffee growing community across the world.
