Coffee Roaster Introduction: CRU Kafe

Coffee Roaster Introduction: CRU Kafe

Best Coffee's roastery guide is a compilation of the very best, tried & tested coffee roasters from around the world. We’ve hand-selected a small collection of amazing coffees for you to sample. Not all coffees are created equal, and not all coffees make it into our shop. So we’re starting a series of articles shining a light on our chosen roasteries to explain why we picked them for your drinking delight.

CRU Kafe

Where: London

Who: Founders, Bodil Bjerkvik & CEO, Tom Greensmith

Since when: 2013

Why: We like Cru Café’s approach to business; always considering the people and planet around us; working on ways to feel good about coffee. That means fair trade and organic coffee, ethically sourced, with production and packaging that minimise their impact on the planet.

What's the story: Founder Bodil, saw a friend re-filling her old Nespresso® capsules with her favourite specialty coffee. For her, it was a lightbulb moment, and after several months of frantic tinkering, Cru Cafe’s first ever product - the Flat White coffee capsule - was launched. From the beginning their mantra has been - ‘taste good, feel good, and do good’. Making things as easy as possible for you to find and enjoy the right coffee for you is central to what they do.

Sustainability credentials:

A beautifully smooth, chocolatey Honduran bean is the base for this blend. A fantastic shade-grown Indian Bahdra lends an extra layer of chocolatey richness & depth to our Honduran bean, whilst the Ethiopian adds a little brightness and sweetness to the overall cup. Tasting notes of Cacao, sweet and creamy praline.
